FUNDACIO CENTRE D'INNOVACIO I TECNOLOGIA DE LA UPC

My name is Cristina Juarez Batlle, I’m the Chief Innovation Officer at CARNET and I have over 15 years experience in urban mobility, digitalisation and transformation. My mission is to leverage cutting-edge technologies to enable a more innovative, efficient, equitable, and sustainable mobility system. Within the SPINE project, my role includes direct contributions to project activities such as assessing the maturity levels of the participating cities and the potential solutions to be implemented, supporting the development of SUMP upgrade roadmaps and the definition of guidelines for the scalability of these solutions, as well as dissemination and technology transfer of the project outcomes.

CARNET plays a strategic role in SPINE by supporting innovation and the transferability of sustainable mobility solutions. It coordinates the mapping of the maturity levels and needs of the partner cities, contributing to the definition of the methodological framework for the replicability of solutions in the Living Labs and Twinning Cities. CARNET is also involved in dissemination and scaling-up activities, facilitating knowledge exchange between cities and technology partners. Furthermore, it provides key contributions to the development of the SPINE Topic Guide and the roadmap for updating Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), supporting the creation of concrete guidelines for the integration of SPINE solutions into urban mobility plans. Thanks to its expertise in innovation and applied research in mobility, CARNET plays a central role in ensuring the transferability and impact of the project’s solutions at the European level.

The added value of SPINE for CARNET lies in the opportunity to strengthen its position as an innovation hub in the field of sustainable mobility at the European level. Through its participation in the project, CARNET has the chance to consolidate its expertise in the application of advanced urban co-design methodologies, Living Labs, and the integration of smart solutions in real urban environments, while also reinforcing relationships with public administrations, transport operators, and technology partners. By participating in SPINE, CARNET can enhance its ability to transfer knowledge and best practices among European cities, positioning itself as a key facilitator in the transition towards low-emission and inclusive urban mobility.

At the end of the SPINE project, CARNET aims to consolidate its position as a European leader in urban mobility innovation, acquiring advanced expertise in the design and implementation of integrated solutions for sustainable public transport. CARNET expects to strengthen its technology transfer capabilities to cities and mobility operators, creating replicable models and tools at the international level. Furthermore, it seeks to expand its network of strategic collaborations with public and private entities, fostering new projects and business opportunities in the field of green and smart mobility.

CARNET joined the SPINE project upon invitation from the technical partners, who recognized its role as a reference in innovation for sustainable urban mobility and thanks to its extensive experience in developing smart solutions for public transport. Moreover, its long-standing collaboration with CINESI, CARNET’s industrial partner, facilitated its involvement in the consortium, strengthening the connection between applied research and the practical implementation of advanced mobility solutions.
