CIVINET CY EL SECRETARIAT ASTIKI MI KERDOSKOPIKI ETAIREIA

Katerina NikolopoulouMy name is Katerina Nikolopoulou and in the SPINE project, I represent the cities Network “CIVINET Greece-Cyprus”. CIVINET Greece-Cyprus is the Greek-speaking branch of the CIVITAS Initiative and the national multiplier of ELTIS. The Network focuses on promoting Sustainable Mobility in the two countries. Due to its intense activity, the expertise it offers and the trust it inspires in its members, the Network has managed in just 5 years to list more than 120 member cities, 6 regions and a multitude of scientific, governmental and other supporting institutions and organisations.

I have a background on political and social studies, specifically in Social Policy, as well as on project management. I am also focusing on citizen engagement, participatory planning, gender equality and inclusiveness. In the SPINE project, CIVINET Greece-Cyprus is responsible for the Synergies with other Initiatives and Projects and operates as a consultant and technical partner for the city of Heraklion. My role in the project is Project Manager on behalf of the Network.

Savvas Stroumpas

My name is Savvas Stroumpas, and I hold a Master’s Diploma in Architectural Engineering. My background is in urban design and participatory design methodologies, enhancing the quality of life in urban spaces. Currently, I focus on urban planning studies, emphasizing the integration of sustainable mobility to create more livable and efficient cities. My expertise bridges design and planning, promoting inclusive, environmentally friendly solutions for better urban environments.

As Project Manager for the SPINE project on behalf of CIVINET Greece-Cyprus, I drive collaboration with similar initiatives, fostering synergies and advancing shared goals. CIVINET Greece-Cyprus also serves as a consultant to the City of Heraklion, supporting its sustainable mobility efforts and promoting innovative urban planning solutions.

Our close collaboration with the Municipality of Heraklion as a subscribing member of our Network and with the University of the Aegean as a member of the CIVINET Scientific Advisory Committee made the SPINE project a first-class cooperation opportunity. Furthermore, INLECOM, an organisation with strong presence in Greece, and ODRAZ, the Secretariat of the CIVINET SLO-CRO-SEE with whom we have excellent and long-standing relations, played a key role to our involvement in the SPINE project.

As a result of the project, we will be able to develop new and strengthen existing links of networking and cooperation with other international organisations. By exchanging ideas, knowledge, and experiences, we aim to improve ourselves. In addition, we hope that this cooperation will contribute to working closely with the City of Heraklion, the University of the Aegean and INLECOM to implement top of the art sustainable mobility solutions together in the Greek and Cypriot area.

As a partner of the SPINE project, CIVINET Greece-Cyprus takes on a double role. On the one hand, we aim to disseminate the project through synergies with initiatives and other projects to maximise its impact and results. On the other hand, we are going to support (through technical support & consultation) the Municipality of Heraklion as one of the cities-LLs that will test and implement sustainable mobility solutions.

Our primary goal in the SPINE project is the success of the Municipality of Heraklion in testing sustainable mobility solutions. We want the city to reach the goals it sets while being accepted by its citizens. Furthermore, we expect to have established strong synergies so that the project results and outputs can be fully utilised.
