Online Workshop “Integrating public transport with active mobility for saving energy in the future”

  • 21.09.2023
  • Online 14.30 – 16:00h CET

Transport accounts for 24% of CO2 emissions in the energy sector. To address this situation, the European Green Deal, Sustainable and Smart Mobility, and the New Urban Mobility Framework aim to reduce transport related GHG emissions by 90% by 2050. In addition, the goal 11 of the UN SDGs promotes the access to “safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transport systems. The SPINE and UPPER projects are completely aligned to these initiatives and have a shared goal that involves the seamless integration of public transportation networks with innovative mobility services, collaborative sharing programs, active transport options, and micromobility solution by expediting the journey towards climate neutrality. By championing this transformative approach, they are at the forefront of a revolution in public transportation, fortifying its position as a vital component of sustainable urban mobility and fostering innovation. Ultimately, these efforts will drive the shift towards a future defined by emission-free mobility. SPINE and UPPER projects organized this workshop to show from first-hand the measures that Tallinn, Leuven, Valladolid and Budapest (TBC) cities are implementing in the respective project sharing their own experiences on integrating public transport systems with new mobility services to accelerate progress towards climate neutrality.

Objectives

This workshop focusses on promoting the implementation of innovative mobility solutions on public transport that save energy and provide integrated mobility among the different transport modes available in the cities. SPINE and UPPER contribute to achieving the aims of the CIVITAS Initiative and the goals of the EU Mission: Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities
