Engaging Gdynia’s citizens in sustainable mobility: SPINE Pop-up Exhibition
On 18 September 2025, the city of Gdynia hosted a Pop-up Exhibition dedicated to sustainable mobility, organised as part of the SPINE and SUMPs for BSR projects. The event took place at several locations across the city centre – including six bus stops and an information point at the Transportation Hub near Gdynia’s main railway station – turning everyday urban spaces into meeting points for dialogue and engagement.
The pop-up format combined promotion of EU-funded mobility initiatives with on-site public transport research. Residents had the opportunity to meet mobility experts, learn about SPINE’s objectives and activities, and take part in a short transport survey. SPINE-branded materials such as leaflets, roll-ups, notebooks, and stickers were distributed, while breakfast packages delivered by cargo bikes helped attract commuters in a friendly and accessible way.
The main goal of the event was to strengthen citizen engagement in shaping urban mobility and to collect valuable data to support evidence-based transport planning. A key focus was to assess public opinion on the effectiveness of bus lanes and gather insights on travel habits, line frequency, and connections. The activity also aimed to raise awareness about Gdynia’s ongoing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) update, encouraging residents to take part in shaping the city’s future mobility policies.
The event attracted great interest among citizens – 296 digital surveys were completed, showing strong participation and willingness to share feedback. The results confirmed that bus lanes are widely perceived as an effective solution for improving bus speed and punctuality. The event was also attended by Gdynia’s Deputy Mayor and City Councillors, whose presence helped increase visibility and public interest.
Through direct engagement with residents, the Pop-up Exhibition successfully contributed to SPINE’s objectives on citizen participation, data collection, and sustainable mobility promotion, strengthening collaboration between the project and the local community.
