SPINE Living Lab Pop-up in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Living has launched its SPINE Living Lab pop-up during the European Mobility Week 2026, at the Siete Palmas multimodal hub.
The pop-up presentation counted with the presence of City Council, Guaguas Municipales, Sagulpa and Cinesi. The pop-up presentation and multimodal hub introduction took place on September 17th.
The SPINE pop-up will be available until the end of September, with the main goal of informing citizens about how the project measures are impacting mobility in the city.
Showcasing the benefits of multimodal mobility
The pop-up consisted in a set of 6 panels placed in a public plaza, showcasing to public transport users, Sítycleta users, and citizens in general, the improvements multimodal hubs provide to the areas where they are implemented regarding accessibility and public transport user experience, emphasizing its multimodal and accessible character.
These improvements are especially important in the upper side of the city (Ciudad Alta), where Siete Palmas and La Ballena multimodal hubs are located. They are an important enabler of the public transport network redesign the city is implementing, and include dedicated and accessible wayfinding, real-time public transport information, and a Sítycleta station (e-bike sharing) powered by PV panels integrated in the multimodal hub.
Gathering feedback from more than 300 citizens
Citizen feedback around satisfaction with the new multimodal hub has been collected from over 300 citizens through in-person surveys.
This will provide valuable input for the acceptance of SPINE measures in the city, in addition to potential new insights regarding future improvements and emerging mobility needs, thus becoming SPINE a catalyst for future improvements.
Sharing experiences from across SPINE cities
The pop-up exhibition also included examples and experiences of other SPINE cities, being a great example from which citizens can be inspired about multimodal public transport user experience, showing similar challenges other cities face and, at the same time, different ways of approaching and overcoming them.
The pop-up presentation counted with the presence of citizens, journalists and living lab representatives which, together with the surveys and the 6 exhibition posters especially prepared for the event, made the pop-up exhibition a great opportunity to promote public transport and sustainable mobility, showcasing the SPINE project Living Lab activities, framing them in the City Council programme during the European Mobility Week 2026.
Supporting integrated and sustainable urban mobility
The SPINE Project represents a confirmation of the compromise of the City Council with intelligent mobility, where public transport, bike sharing and pedestrians interact in a coordinated manner part of an integrated, sustainable and efficient system.
For the City Council:
«Siete Palmas is an example of how a liveable spot of the city can become also a point that facilitates new alternatives to move around the city and to combine them. This is the kind of mobility we want to keep promoting in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria».
