
HERAKLION MUNICIPALITY
Zacharenia Drosou holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and a Master’s Degree in e-Government and has specialized in Regional Development and Local Government issues. For more than two decades, she has been involved in the design, drafting, submission, management and implementation of National, European and Transnational Funding Programs, as Director of Planning, Organization and ICT in charge of 4 departments, which includes the European Programs Department and the ICT Department of the Municipality of Heraklion. During the implementation of programs under her responsibility, the Municipality of Heraklion has been internationally recognized, receiving , for example, in 2013 the 2nd Pan-European Prize for the Promotion of Human Rights (DOSTA!-CONGRESS PRIZE FOR MUNICIPALITIES) and in 2019, recognition by UNESCO for training inclusive practices (European “FitforAll” Program), while every year, as this year, it receives Digital Transformation and Innovative Applications Awards.
She has the responsibility to present to the City Council documented proposals for final approval, which are in line with the Municipality’s strategy.
Within the framework of SPINE, she supervises and directs the development of LLs, in collaboration with the project team.
Due to its long-term involvement with European programs, the Μunicipality of Heraklion belongs to a network of partners. As part of this network the Municipality of Heraklion stays connected and informed about European Programs.
The staff of the Directorate in collaboration with the departments of the Municipality are in ongoing search of European Programs for the improvement of the life of the citizens and visitors in alignment with the Municipal Strategy and Vision.
In the framework of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) the City of Heraklion adopts practices that aim to defend the environment, reduce emissions, and limit travel by private cars. The Directorate of Planning, Organization and ICT in collaboration with the other departments of the Municipality always working towards a better quality of life for citizens and visitors.
As twinning city within the framework of SPINE we aim to adopt good practices regarding the sustainable mobility and maintain the measures with added value.
