STVR reportage on SPINE Smart Parking Solution in Zilina


On Friday, 4th of April, 2025, Slovak national TV broadcaster STVR broadcasted a reportage about the SPINE Smart Parking Solution implemented in Zilina. The reportage aired in the “News from the Regions“ news block at 6PM local time.
The reportage starts with a short introduction by the moderator, stating that a Smart Parking system has been implemented in the city of Zilina and that its data will be used to develop digital tools which will motivate travellers to use private cars less. A brief block follows, where the City of Zilina’s spokesperson, Ms. Zuzana Ondrasova, explains the process of parking spot occupancy sensing and how the data from cameras are being processed and displayed to the users. Next, three short interviews with Zilina residents are presented. The interviewees discuss the current difficulties associated with parking in the Zilina city center from the driver’s perspective and express their belief that the Smart Parking solution will help to improve the situation. After the three citizen interviews, a short explanation is provided by Dr. Tibor Petrov (UNIZA) about how the data from the smart parking system are going to be analyzed and used to improve urban planning. The connection of the Smart Parking solution to the SPINE project is presented by Ms. Zuzana Ondrasova and a brief overview of SPINE and its goals is presented by the moderator. The reportage continues with a short block, where Dr. Petrov introduces the upcoming Multimodal Journey Planner solution and explains its connection with the Smart Parking solution to promote public transport and active modes. The reportage is concluded by an acknowledgment of the Horizon Europe programme.
